Meal Assembly Tips:  In our Store or In your home

  • When putting anything in a ziploc bag, open the bag and then fold the edges back once or even twice.  This keeps the "zipper" area from getting messy with food and not sealing properly, and it also provides stability to the bag to get your stuff in there easier!
  • When a recipe calls for a measurement (1 cup, 1 tsp, 1/2 Tbsp, etc), the recipe ALWAYS (unless it states otherwise) wants you to add a LEVEL measurement - exactly to the top of the spoon or measure mark.  More is not always better, a good recipe has been designed with a specific balance of ingredients - too much or too little of one thing can throw the whole balance off.
  • Foil pans, or in fact any metal pans, disperse heat differently in the oven than a glass or ceramic pan.  As a general rule, automatically bump up the oven temperature by 25C if baking in a foil or metal pan.  For example if the recipe calls for the oven to be at 350C and you are using a foil pan, put the oven at 375C and your meal should be done in the same amount of time.  If you are cooking a DF meal that was packaged in a foil pan, we've already adjusted for this on our cooking label.
  • When assembling a meal in a ziploc bag that has been placed in a crock to hold it up, avoid the temptation to tap (to get the last bit out) your metal measuring spoon against the side of the bag.  These little taps cause little holes in the ziploc bag causing leaks.
